Linux headless guest not headless

I have a strange problem for which I have been searching for an answer. Not really sure how to best formulate the search, so my apologies if this has been posted somewhere else already.

I have a Fedora 17 VirtualBox host running a couple of guests. I have no problems with my Windows 7 or Windows 2012 guests running in headless mode. However, when I start my Fedora 17 guest in headless mode, the guest desktop shows up on my host desktop with no window decorations/controls. Clicking the login window or menu does nothing. I have to ssh in remotely and shut the system down.

Again, my Windows 7 guest works fine in headless mode. But my Fedora 17 guest in headless mode shows up on my desktop. I have tried disabling remote display or changing ports for the remote display, but to no avail. Not sure what else to try.

Any assistance anyone can provide is greatly appreciated!

I'm hoping that I'm not the only one experiencing this issue. :-)

Again, any suggestions are greatly appreciated!!

How are you starting your Fedora guest in headless mode?

I am running the following command:

VBoxManage startvm <vm_name> --type headless

I have seen this before but not often, and not often enough to track down the actual cause. I believe it has to do with 3D acceleration and Gnome3
You may need to post a ticket at bugtracker with detailed explanation and log files (as an attachment)
