Repeating keystrokes Ubuntu 12.10 on OS X 10.8

Hi,
I am experiencing some strangeness while trying to set up Ubuntu server 12.10 64 bits in VirtualBox on my OS X Server 10.8.2.
During the installation process, and subsequent boot process I am all but unable to use the keyboard due to the keystrokes being repeated an (seemingly) arbitrary number of times. I have to wait 3-5 seconds after pressing any key before pressing a new one to avoid the first keystroke being repeated.
Obviously this is a big problem when typing in passwords and using the keyboard to navigate the installation. However, the bigger problem is that I am setting up two encrypted partitions with 20+ character passwords. It is nigh impossible to enter the correct passwords.
I have asked the google several times to no avail. Does anyone have any idea how to fix or work around this?
