Cannot access kernel driver (TRIED reinstalling & vboxdrv)

Post by agilm »

Hi all,
On a Win7 x64 Ultimate host I was to run a windows guest in virtualbox, but then I can't start the machine as I'm stopped by the Runtime Error saying "Cannot access the kernel driver! Make sure the kernel module has been loaded successfully." with an "Abort" button. Followed by the message saying the machine is stopped unexpectedly with:

"Result Code: E_FAIL (0x80004005)
Component: Machine
Interface: IMachine {22781af3-1c96-4126-9edf-67a020e0e858}"

I have TRIED whatever Googling gives me:
uninstalling-reboot-and-installing
repair-reboot
going to drivers\vboxdrv\ and install vboxdrv.inf, and reboot
copying vboxdrv.sys to system32\drivers\, install vboxdrv.inf and reboot...

And then I have come to a bottleneck in finding any other solutions that matches my situation, so I asked here.
Thanks everyone!

I have a similar issue.
Win7 Enterprise SP 1 64b on a M4400 with 4GB RAM and 750GB HDD.

I installed VB 4.2.4 but never tried it before installing 4.2.8.
Now I've tried to run VMs created in 4.1.?? and earlier, on a Win XP SP3 host.
When I try to start any VM, I get that same "VirtualBox - Runtime Error /Cannot access the kernel driver!"
I tried uninstalling and then reinstalling VB 4.2.8, but I still get the same behavior.
I just tried creating a DOS VM from scratch. Same behavior.
Also, I did check to see that VBoxDRV.sys is in \windows\system32\drivers and it is the 4.2.8 version.

Anyone have an idea how to solve?

Oh, Yeah...
I tried installing 4.2.8 on a Win7 32b (different) machine, and it was able to run the same VM's without problem.
