VM running slower on desktop than on Laptop

Post by Fricken Hamster »

So I have two host machines, a Desktop running Win7 64bit with an i5 750 @ 3.255GHZ, 8GB RAM.

And a laptop that has AMD Llano A6-3400M @ 2.3GHZ

I am running Mint14 MATE 64bit with 1GB RAM on both.

My Desktop should be more powerful, however the VM runs a lot smoother on my laptop. On the desktop, lag is really noticeable when opening programs. Any thoughts on how to optimize or speedup the Guest machine on my desktop?

Thanks!

Make sure the guest additions are up to date. In this case, they are not.

A lot of things contribute to VM speed more than CPU. Bus and disk speeds for example. It also matters what else you have going on on the PC - bandwidth eaters such as antivirus, background network backups etc.

If you have the same VirtualBox version running on both PCs then you have identical VirtualBox code running on both - so draw your own conclusions from that.
