Hi I'm trying to export the vm and its not working. I have backup of the vm files but the user modified the software on the vm and didnt notify me. Then the VM started having issues and i cant get it to boot. If i go back to one of the snapshots i lose the new software on the vm. I have tried copying the vdi's in windows explorer and that even fails
Host machine is XP pro 32bit
Guest machine is XP prot 32 bit
VB 4.2.6
The following is the error:
Failed to export appliance C:\Documents and Settings\Patrick.SRDOM\Desktop\trane.ova.
Could not create the clone medium 'C:\Documents and Settings\Patrick.SRDOM\Desktop/trane-disk1.vmdk' (VERR_UNRESOLVED_ERROR).
Result Code: VBOX_E_FILE_ERROR (0x80BB0004)
Component: Appliance
Interface: IAppliance {3059cf9e-25c7-4f0b-9fa5-3c42e441670b}
Any help would be appreciated!
thanks

Re: Issues with export of appliance!
With the info provided the cause could be any of a million things. Usually a disk error on read or write (use chkdsk to find out).
Why are you trying to export the VM? Unless you are porting to another VM platform, simply copying the VM folder is usually simpler (using Machine|Add on the target PC to reregister the VM).

Re: Issues with export of appliance!
Hi mpack thanks for the reply. I trying to move the current state of the vm to another desktop. Besides export, i've tried to copy the actual vdi files and such but the latest snapshot seems to have issues copying in windows explorer "windows could not finish because of an I/O problem" or something along those lines...I have ran checkdisk /f on the host but i'm running from a remote location so i cant really see it.
Should i try just to copy the folder within windows instead or it seems there is a cli for virtualbox that maybe i should try?
thanks

Re: Issues with export of appliance!
Don't copy VDI files. Copy the entire VM folder, including all contents and subfolders. This will work provided the VM was created using VirtualBox v4.0.0 or later (it doesn't matter which VBox version last used it). You can tell because v4.x VMs always have a .vbox file, v3.x and older VMs have an xml. Copy the VM folder to any convenient and accessible location on the target (in the "VirtualBox VMs" folder is good), then use Machine|Add to register the .vbox file on the new PC.
