I just installed 4.2.6, put in a XP guest.... but the resolution won't go past 800x600?
I installed the Guest Additions, but it didn't seem to change anything at all...

This is on a MBP 13" retina display running Mtn Lion... Any suggestions?

Post the log file. Way on linux host: vbox gui, select guest, context menu via right mouse button , show log.

When you say "won't get past", do you mean that you cannot resize the Virtualbox window, that you cannot change the resolutiuon in the guest via the display properties menu? Or another one?

Try the host+G toggle to make sure auto-resize is enabled.

I meant when I'm in the WinXP guest, when I try to adjust display properties -> settings. 800x600 is the only allowable size.
I have tried auto-size guest display both checked and unchecked, doesn't change anything.

How about grabbing the resize handle in the lower right corner of the VM window and stretching it that way.

I feel stupid. Thanks. Stretching the window works easy. Let's me pull it as large as I can (which can be really huge on this retina display + quickres) and dynamically adjusts the Windows guest to fit it. For some reason I kept expecting Windows to let me adjust it in the display properties! Off to explore more of the wonders of VirtualBox.
