VB won't recognize my SD card slot

Hello all,

I have a 1-week-old Mac Mini running OS X 10.8.2. This computer has a slot for an SD memory card. Now I'm making "clean" installations (from the installers) of all the programs I was using on the old Mac. I installed VirtualBox 4.2.6, followed by the extension package, a Win XP virtual machine, and the guest additions. The VM can see the USB ports, but cannot see the SD card port. Both the native Mac and an XP VM installed under Parallels can see this port without difficulty. Any advice for me?
