invalid environment block

Post by vboxstopp »

Hi guys,

I have a strange problem. My host is Mac OS X, my guest is Debian (64 bit). All was fine. I was working on the maybe 20. snap shot. Then the VM turned off without any warning.
After restarting the VM I see the VB start screen, then for some milliseconds the Message

Code: Select all

error: invalid environment block.
Then the GRUB appears, then the system freezes with this screen:

Code: Select all

error: invalid environment block.

Press any key to continue...
.. No more reaction.

I already tried to edit the grub like it's described on several google results. But the system does still not boot.

Even the old snap shots don't work. I tried to clone the VM and tried to create a new VM with the certain disk image. Nothing helps.

It's a dynamic disk with max. 10GB, recently it has 8,09 GB. VirtualBox Version 4.2.6.

I think there is something wrong with the VMDK-File, do you have any idea?

Edit:
Or is it possible to copy the snap shots of the damaged VM to a new VM with the same import base?

Thx, for your help.

Regards,
T.

Your question does not belong in "Using VirtualBox". Moving to "Linux Guests".
