I'm trying to 'pass-thru' use of my Logitech Unifying USB Receiver, as it is paired with my Logitech Marathon mouse. However, when attempting to do so, the process freezes my mouse on both ends, host and guest.

Host: Win 7 HP x64
Guest: Win 8 Pro x64

Is this possibly a case whereby it requires me to unpair from host in order to use it/pair it on the guest?

An assumption...using the USB 'Filters' section in VB is a means to pass-thru the device; that's what I've attempted. Not certain what you mean by 'USB capture'; is that to say how VB 'simulates' a USB mouse as a 3-button mouse? Then yes, that works fine, but is not what I want.

USB filter is how I understood it, there is just another experimental feature using VT-d to pass-through a usb controller but only work under Linux, and I wanted to be sure we are talking about the same thing.

As for your setup, AFAIK it will not work, because if you capture the mouse in the guest, it won't be available in the host anymore, and Virtualbox manages the mouse via "capturing" the mouse itself from the host, but not capturing via USB. Therefore if no mouse is available in the host, it won't work in the guest.

No you are right. USB devices are a one-to-one physical connection. Setting a filter will force the keyboard and mouse to the guest. The only way I have seen this work is if there are two sets of keyboard & mouse.

VirtualBox uses the keyboard & mouse shared resource via software so the guest and host can actually use the devices as independent. The best thing to do is make sure you have installed the guest additions in the guest.

Why "bummer"? What is it you are trying to achieve? - because what you tried simply isn't necessary if the only intention was giving the VM a keyboard and/or mouse.

This thread was not simply about simulating a 3-button mouse in a guest; it was about the possibility of utilizing the full functionality of my Logitech mouse, which has 6 customizable buttons. Thanks for your feedback anyhow.

Well, that was always a non-starter unless you dedicated a USB mouse to the VM. The simulated mouse is a standard PS/2 mouse, not a Logitech.

I get that, dude, per replies by @Perryg and @Noteirak. The initial Q was whether I could utilize the full functionality of my Logitech mouse in a guest. Then I learned, even if possible, I could only be paired to either the host or the guest...resolved.
