Driver stays disabled

Post by BarakZ »

Hello All,

I've been working with the virtualBox for a long time and all was good.
Today I restarted the computer in order to install windows update on my computer.
After it wwent up, I tried to open the Virutal machine, and saw that only one dirve opened, but the other one (d:) was missing.
The VM manager see both of the drivers (when I clicked on settings -> storage I still see both of the drivers).
When I opened the VM and looked at the Device manager I saw that both of the drivers were there, but one of them was disabled.
So I pressed on the enabled button - It went up for a second and went down after a second.
I tried to reinstall the driver - still no good.
If anyone has any idea what to do, please let me know - I've spent all day trying to fix this.

Thanks,
Barak

I'm having trouble reading your meaning. I assumed thoughout that you meant "drive" rather than "driver" - at least until you mentioned "reinstall the driver". So let me know if the following misses the point.

Assuming it's a bad drive... Normally if a VDI file is missing or corrupted then VirtualBox will refuse to start the VM. So, I assume that any problems with the disk are at the guest level, e.g. the drive has been reformatted, had the main partition deleted etc. I can think of several nasty scenarios, no good ones. Are you aware of having done anything significant inside the VM recently, e.g. restoring a snapshot?

hello mpack,

you're right, of course. I meant drive. When I wrote "reinstall.." I meant that I deleted the connection to the vhd file from settings -> storage and then went back and added it again.
Regarding your question - all was working well until I restarted the computer and windows intalled security updates
