Bi-directional clipboard does not work

I'm having problems getting the bi-directional clipboard to work. I am able to copy from the host to my guest, and I am also able to copy from guest to guest, but I am not able to copy from guest to host. The other features of the guest os additions appear to be working, at least the features I use (for the most part resizable desktop by resizing the vm window in the host). I have selected bi-directional shared clipboard in the vbox manager gui for my VM. I am running vbox v4.2.6 (64 bit)
I'm running vbox on win 7 64, the guest os is archlinux 64 bit running xorg and awesomewm. Does anybody have an idea how to fix this, or troubleshoot?
