Recommended Settings - Mint 14 Guest on Windows 7 Host

Post by claytoncarney »

Have not found anything on this in the forums (mostly because I keep getting a message that search is not available now)...

Running VBox 4.2.6 on Windows 7 64-bit Host.

Attempting to create Linux Mint 14 64-bit Guest. Mint is not a Version option in the 'Create Virtual Machine' dialog. What would you recommend?

Since Mint is forked from Ubuntu, I tried 'Ubuntu (64-bit)' first, but abandon it after the install hung for over an hour. I've had some success with 'Linux 2.6 (64-bit)', but encountered weird mouse behavior when 3D acceleration is enable.

Any suggestions are appreciated.

You would use Ubuntu and version 12.10 (64). Make sure that you have hardware virtualization enabled in you PCs bios.
After you install you still need to install the guest additions. This should help Howto: Install Linux Guest Additions

As for searching you should use Google or you favorite search engine with site:forums.virtualbox.org see example.

Appears the problem is specific to the favor - Mint-14-Xfce. That one hung using 'Ubuntu (64-bit)'.

Successfully created VMs for Mint-14-Cinnamon and Mint-14-Mate using 'Ubuntu (64-bit)'. Guest Additions installed. No problems observed so far.

Thanks for the help!
