Clipboard stops working. Unable to restart VBox Additions

Post by amr »

I'm running Ubuntu 12.10 (guest) on Windows 7 (host). Every now and then, clipboard sharing (e.g. from host to guest) stops working. The only way to get it back to work is to restart the machine.

Before I file a ticket, I was wondering if anyone has had this problem before and if there is a recommended course of action. I have seen old tickets that have been closed (and presumably fixed) in relation to this problem.

I have also read online that restarting the VirtualBox Additions service could bring clipboard sharing back, but if I try to do so, I get an error message:

Code: Select all

$ /etc/init.d/vboxadd restart
Stopping VirtualBox Additions ... fail!
(Cannot umount vboxsf folders)
I have not specified any shared folders (I haven't even touched that feature since I installed VirbualBox), so I am not sure what may be causing this.

I can post the log files if that helps, but there are five log files (VBox.log, VBox.log.1, VBox.log.2, VBox.log.3, and VBox.log.4), and if I paste them all (411864 chars) it would exceed the allowed number of characters (60000 chars).

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Attach the log files as a zip file to this post, this way we can download the file directly and check if something comes up

We don't need the log file from the last five sessions, we only need the latest one (vbox.log), or at least the one corresponding to the problem session.
