Guest File System Errors on Only One Host Machine
Guest File System Errors on Only One Host Machine
I'm getting file system errors repeatedly. I've tried several VMs with the same problem. I'm running Windows 7 Host and Ubuntu 12.10 guest. Randomly I'll be doing something in the guest and suddenly will get the error "read-only file system" when it's trying to write to the drive. Then when I reboot, there is file system corruption. If it's not too bad I can continue working until the next time it says the file system is read only again. I've tried using both VDI and VHD virtual disks. I've tried disks of varying sizes. I've tried both fixed and dynamic disks. I can't seem to find what is causing this. I even took a VM from another Windows 7 system that I have been using for several months without any issue, and on this Windows 7 system it gives me this problem. I've attached a log file from my latest attempt in which I couldn't even get through the Ubuntu install before it gave out. This is my main Windows 7 machine at home, and I have no other issues with it. Any help with troubleshooting this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Do you have Host I/O cache enabled into the storage controllers of your VM?

I did not change that setting from the default. It appears that the default is on for IDE and off for SATA. I tried attaching it as both IDE and SATA, so I suppose I tried on with IDE and off with SATA.

I see you have your VMs located on drive D:\. What type of drive is that?
ps. If you are having I/O reliability problems then I would certainly avoid using VHD format disks.
