BUG: soft lockup - CPU#

Post by branic »

I am running VirtualBox 4.2.6 on a Windows x86_64 host with a Fedora 17 x86_64 guest.

Frequently the host CPU utilization goes to 100% and the guest reports messages similar to the following:

Code: Select all

kernel: [146980.106962] BUG: soft lockup - CPU#1 stuck for 22s! [watchdog/1:14]
The process that is reported varies as does the CPU that the soft lockup is reported on. Often times the only solution is to power off the host to recover.

I have attached the vbox.log from when this last occurred.

How can I stop these lockup's from happening? I have searched the forums, but have not found any definitive solutions.

What is the power management set to in the guest? I see suspend resume entries that look like the guest is going in and out of power management (suspend)
If you haven't already I would make sure that all power management is turned off in any virtual guest.

I have disabled apci using the following two commands. I'll update this thread with a status if the lockups happen again or I have run a few days without lockups.

Code: Select all

systemctl off acpid
systemctl disabled acpid
