Hi All,

I cant be able to access a website running in ubuntu apache2 on the LAN. The ubuntu is running as a virtual machine inside win 2008 server. The win 2008 cant even access the website but while am inside ubuntu I can access the website. What could be the problem here.

Thanks

Check the networking mode. Guests running in NAT mode can't be reached from outside the VM. For that you must use bridged or host-only, depending on who needs to reach the VM.

The Ubuntu VM network interface must be into on the following configuration (first is best) :
1. Bridged on the host LAN NIC
2. Host-only with a host-only interface installed on the host via Virtualbox
3. NAT with port forwarding configured in Virtualbox

Also, you must open the port in your guest, if any firewall is setup.

Am using Bridhed Adapter and I have even stopped all firewall in win 2008 but nothing is showing. Is there any configuration I need to do in the etc folder of
Ubuntu to make it LIVE on the LAN

Can you ping between your host and your guest?
Are they both on the same subnet?
Do you have a DHCP server or are you using fixed IP?

Yes I can ping and it doenst time out meaning that from windows to ubuntu all packets are received well. They are on the same subnet and am using fixed/static IP. Remember if I use the IP inside ubuntu its working.

Then either the firewall is still running, either on the guest or on the host, or the webserver has been configured to run only from a local IP.
Either way, if the ping goes throught, there is nothing wrong with virtualbox.

The win 2008 is actually newly installed OS, just running with the default windows firewall that I have stopped already. I have gone ahead to stop the firewall in ubuntu itself. Its really behaving in funny manner.
