How to connect onto internet from guest to host?

Post by OSacrifice »

I was wondering if I can connect to the internet on my host computer from the VM(running linux mint)? I've played around but I haven't seen anything. I am only asking this is because my school's wifi restricts windows computers from logging on because they say that windows have too many viruses.

Do you want only the redirection to browse the net or also for any kind of IP traffic?

If you only want browsing redirection, the easiest solution would be to setup an HTTP proxy in your VM, and configure 2 NIC : bridged on your Wifi NIC (or NAT) and Host-Only for the host-vm connection
If you want a full IP traffic redirection, you will need more tweaking, but more on that later if that is what you need.

Uh, full redirection please. Also, would this work on a linux live CD or do I have to install it on to the VM

Also, what does :configure 2 NIC " bridged on your Wifi NIC (or NAT) and Host-Only for the host-vm connection" mean? Sorry I am quite confused.

What is the precise reason you want a full IP redirection? If your school Wifi forbids Windows computers, this won't stop you from being blocked even with full IP redirection (aka NAT in the guest), since the data that identify your host as Windows is passed into ISO layers 5 to 7, but TCP/IP works on 3 & 4.
