VMWare VM

Post by gmilitel »

Hi, Im trying to load a .vmdk from a vmware player vm into virtual box and when I boot the machine I received "Error loading Operating System". The guest OS is a Windows 2003 standard. I also tried to convert .vmdk disk to .vdi with no results. When played from vmware player again the vm starts fine.

Regards.

You usually need to enable IO APIC select the correct disk controller type. It's also possible that the disk image is incomplete, e.g. it could just be the base disk in a snapshot chain.

I note that you seem to be using the terms VMDK and VM interchangably. A VMDK is a bare disk, not a VM. So when you say that the VM works in VMWare, is that the old VM or a new one? I.e. does this bare disk work in VMWare if you create a new VM around it using the same recipe you used in VBox?
