Win8-Host, Linux-Client, USB-Stick dont work (is busy)!

Post by sunshineh »

Hi, Folks!, My USB-Stick doesn't work on my Linux Mint Guest System! (The USB Device cant be bound on the virtual machine)

Here my data:
-Dell Inspiron Notebook with Intel i7 and Windows 8, 64bit
-Virtual Box 4.2.6, with GuestAdditions and VirtualBox Extension Pack 4.2.6 (it seems that the guest additions already had been installed with the extenstion pack maybe).
-Guest: Linux Mint Nadia Cinnamon 32bit 14.1
-USB Stick is a Transcend 64GB USB3.0/2.0

How can i use my USB Stick on my Guest Linux System????

(i have 2 Computers, and i have data on my old VBox to Transfer to my new VBox on the other Computer. But this should be save, without connecting to the host Systems.)

AFAIK USB 3/2 is not supported yet. Try a USB 2 USB-stick.

OK but from your description it is USB3 and USB2 capable. This may keep it from working. Do you have another USB 2 only device?

Also post the results of the following:

Code: Select all

VBoxManage list extpacks

Do you have a standard USB 2 Pen drive to try?

But you don't say whether they worked or not. Assuming that they did not then I don't know what else to tell you.

It could be several things. Conflicts or even the new security of Windows 8. Only thing else you could do is post a ticket at bugtracker if you truly believe this is an issue with VirtualBox. Look for other tickets first and post the guests log file as an attachment as well as the results of the VBoxManage list extpacks.

If there is no other solution, use the Stick as Shared Folder.
