Vista, Lubuntu

Hi,
I have Vista installed on my machine, but it does not run due to insufficient memory.
I have a live Lubuntu pendrive and am thinking of installing this OS to the hard-drive.
I am worried about partitioning in the event of deciding to remove Lubuntu and the affect on booting Vista (should I upgrade the memory).
So, at present, I only have Lubuntu as a live pendrive as a working OS.
Is it possible to use Virtualbox to run Lubuntu from the disk and protect the bootloader of Vista and Vista itself.
Thanks
