[BUG] shared folder caching?

Post by dchiaramello »

Hello.

I encounter a very weird bug, mounting an image disk hosted in a shared folder on separate VMs...

Context: VirtualBox 4.2.6r82870, hosted on Windows 7.
2 VM, using Linux Redhat v5.5, each of them using the same shared folder from host.

VM1:

Code: Select all

> md5sum /media/sf_share/soriso_v3_2.iso
5a1064b49ec9b462ba7114c154c60d4e /media/sf_share/soriso_v3_2.iso
> mount -o loop -t iso9660 /media/sf_share/soriso_v3_2.iso /mnt/soriso
> ll /mnt/soriso/MCTEL/RPMS/mctel_wmsg_classic_plugin-1.0.0-1.el5.i386.rpm
-r--r--r-- 1 root root 314087 Jan 8 12:10 /mnt/soriso/MCTEL/RPMS/mctel_wmsg_classic_plugin-1.0.0-1.el5.i386.rpm
VM2:

Code: Select all

> md5sum /media/sf_share/soriso_v3_2.iso
5a1064b49ec9b462ba7114c154c60d4e /media/sf_share/soriso_v3_2.iso
> mount -o loop -t iso9660 /media/sf_share/soriso_v3_2.iso /mnt/soriso
> ll /mnt/soriso/MCTEL/RPMS/mctel_wmsg_classic_plugin-1.0.0-1.el5.i386.rpm
-r--r--r-- 1 root root 314607 Jan 8 15:40 /mnt/soriso/MCTEL/RPMS/mctel_wmsg_classic_plugin-1.0.0-1.el5.i386.rpm
You can notice that the image disk is the same (md5sum returns the same thing), but the content is not... In fact, in the first VM, the content displayed is the content of an old "/media/sf_share/soriso_v3_2.iso", which was overwritten later by a new one.

Copying the disk image locally and using the local version solves the problem:

VM1:

Code: Select all

> cp /media/sf_share/soriso_v3_2.iso /usr/var/ss7/sor_MEDIA_OUT/MCTEL_sor_v3.2.0_08January2013.iso
> mount -o loop -t iso9660 /usr/var/ss7/sor_MEDIA_OUT/MCTEL_sor_v3.2.0_08January2013.iso /mnt/soriso
> ll /mnt/soriso/MCTEL/RPMS/mctel_wmsg_classic_plugin-1.0.0-1.el5.i386.rpm
-r--r--r-- 1 root root 314607 Jan 8 15:40 /mnt/soriso/MCTEL/RPMS/mctel_wmsg_classic_plugin-1.0.0-1.el5.i386.rpm
Apparently, it's a problem of cache related to shared folders...
