I know where to get the machine uuid and i have generated a new one, but i need to know the syntax in terminal to modify the machine uuid.

Tread softly and do have a backup in case you shoot yourself in the foot.

I cannot find the uuid. What I thought was the uuid wasnt it.

Can you explain why you want/need to do this? Unless there is a very good reason it is usually best to leave it alone. In fact some OSes fail to boot if the number is changed.
