Hi,

I upgraded from 4.2.4 to 4.2.6 (+ ExtPack) and when starting it up, there appears to be a permission problem within the virtual filesystem:

Failed to open a session for the virtual machine openSUSE-12.1-32bitB.

Failed to open image 'C:\Users\(me)\VirtualBox VMs\openSUSE-12.1-32bitB\Snapshots/{7be4ffb0-2e6a-475f-b329-d1b7b5e2c16a}.vdi' for writing due to wrong permissions (VERR_VD_IMAGE_READ_ONLY).

Failed to attach driver below us! Image is read-only. (VERR_VD_IMAGE_READ_ONLY).

AHCI: Failed to attach drive to Port0 (VERR_VD_IMAGE_READ_ONLY).

Result Code: E_FAIL (0x80004005)
Component: Console
Interface: IConsole {db7ab4ca-2a3f-4183-9243-c1208da92392}

I've attached the VM VBox log file and a couple of other items that might be helpful. I searched through the User's Manual and this Forum but did not find anything similar. Finally, I wasn't able to figure out how to get into the "vdi" to inspect and possibly correct the permissions though I must admit that the User's Manual, while quite complete is a bit daunting for "quick" reference. (Though most of the other issues I've encountered have been covered very well.)

Btw, this is not my first upgrade. They haven't always gone smoothly but I have the following versions in my download area:

4.1.12
4.1.14
4.1.16
4.1.20
4.1.22
4.2.4
4.2.6

Another thing, I was going to remove 4.2.6 and go back to 4.2.4 to see if that still works, but it's not clear that a.) this can be done; and b.) that the openSUSE virtual machine will not also be removed.

Thanks for any advice.

Cheers,
Mike

Uninstalling the VirtualBox application does not delete the data (the VMs). There is no reason you can't go back to 4.2.4.

One no-no is to update the VirtualBox software while you have the VM in a suspended state. That might be what you did, in which case discard the saved state.
