To save you from being banned just because of poor use of jargon: I assume your reference to downloading an OS X image is actually talking about creating a VM from a setup CD, and you are not actually downloading anything?

sorry for the bad jargon.
yes, i use my own Retail cd of 10.7, that i have from an old MBP !!!
what i mean when i say download is the following: in the past i used VMWare, and they supplied (i dont know if they still do) legit VM images of various OS's, for testing purposes, i dont know if VirtualBox have the same.
i hope that clears my intentions..

There are pre-built VirtualBox VM downloads available, but not from this site, and never of Windows or OS X, neither of which are free.

Sorry, I'm not a Mac expert, I can't tell you what will and won't work. You should however read
Important notice regarding Mac OS X as Guest.

I'm curious as to where you got this retail 10.7.5 DVD (CD would be much too small to hold the OS installer which weighs in at a little over 4GB) when Lion has only ever been available as a download (or on a USB thumb drive) from Apple.

Then none of those disks would have Lion on them since it was released a year and a half ago.
