Thanks for the link but it seems that the resolution is limited to 1024 horizontally no matter whether you do it manually through the xorg.conf, by resizing the window of the guest with the mouse or through the cents display GUI. For for instance if the xorg.conf is set for 1440x900 the system limits it to 1024 points horizontally and loses track of the windows. Note that the auto-rezise feature works just fine if the display is less than 1024 points horizontally.
Could the problem be that the auto-resize feature of the newer guest addition is not compatible with centos 4.8? If so would it be possible within VB 4.2.6 to install an older guest addition version that does not include this auto-resize feature?
Thanks,
Dave

Re: Centos 4.5 screen resolution problem
Anything is possible. I don't have a copy of CentOS that old to experiment with.
Here is a link to all releases of VirtualBox. http://download.virtualbox.org/virtualbox/
You can experiment using the Fedora guest additions, but I think I would ask the CentOS forum first.

Re: Centos 4.5 screen resolution problem
Hi,
Just a me-too, except that I'm running Oracle Linux (64bit), kernel 2.6.32-300.39.2.el5uek . Auto-resize is fine vertically up to the limit of my monitor but tops out at what looks like 1024 horizontally. Worked fine before upgrading the additions to 4.2.6 .
Cheers,
Jim

Just a me-too, here as well.
I have the same version of OEL as Jim.
When I go back to 4.1.22 with the exact same VM - just downgrade VBox and GA to 4.1.22 - then all works fine again.
Cheers,
-Leif
