Hello all

I'm needing some clarification on bridged networking with multiple NICs running Vbox 4.2.6, running on a Win7x64 host.

My hosts' mobo (Intel s2600CP4) has 4 on-board nics, and I've added an intel 2-port PCIe network card. Since I'm generally more familiar with Gentoo, I'll call them eth0-eth5 (the dual port addition being eth0 and eth1).

My network setup is as follows:

Router: 192.168.0.1 (Zyxel Q1000z wired/wireless DSL modem) all connection are direct to modem/router or through wired 1000/T switches, dhcp enabled for 192.168.0.2 - x.x.x.99
My machine: gentoo linux @ 192.168.0.2 (dhcp)
VirtualBox host: Windows 7 Pro x64 @ 192.168.0.100 (eth0 - static)
Vbox Guest #1: Windows server 2008 r2 @ 192.168.0.101 (eth1 - static ideally)
Vbox guest #2: Windows Server 2012 @ 192.168.0.102 (eth2 - static ideally)
Guest #3: future @ 192.168.0.103 (eth3)
Guest #4: future @ 192.168.0.104 (eth4)
Guest #5: future @ 192.168.0.105 (eth5)

I had configured the hosts' eth0-eth5 with static IPs as listed above, but when the either guest booted, they were receiving DHCP addresses from the router, and I wasn't able to ping x.x.x.101 or x.x.x.102 from my machine.
So, I configured the hosts' eth1-eth5 for DHCP, then configured guest #1 for static IP @ 192.168.0.101 and guest #2 for static @ x.x.x.102.
In both cases, I'm able to ping from the guest to the gateway, to my machine, to the internet, etc, etc. However, I'm unable to ping from my machine to the static IP I'd like my guests to have.

I'm testing windows server (2008,2012) with mixed linux and windows clients, so I'm attempting to replicate our small business infrastructure. Within vbox Guest 1(2008r2), network adapter 1 is bridged to eth1, for general internet access, while adapter 2 is (will be, rather) connected to an Internal Network for 2008r2's AD forest. Logically then, Guest #2's (windows server 2012) adapter 1 will be bridged to eth2, while adapter 2 will be connected to a different Internal Network for 2012's AD forest.

I think I'm missing something simple, although I've tried so many different things now, they're all running together.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

When you want to use the NICs just for the guest you shouldn't configure any IP addresses for them on the host.

Thanks for the response. That's what I had generally thought. Now for the $64000 question - how do you do that in Windows 7? I know how to do that on my gentoo box, but Windows seems to always want to assign an IP to any NIC that has link.

I'm a moron... Since I've assigned static IP to eth0, I don't need the DHCP client service running... doh!

You could disable/remove the TCP/IP protocol from the NICs
