Hello,
I'm using Virtualbox 4.2.6 (r82870) under Ubuntu 12.10. My host screen resolution is 1440:900 (I have a 16:10 LCD)
I have made a fresh install of a Debian Squeeze VM. Guest addons are installed.
In my VM, no 1440:900 resolution is listed ; I have :
1600 x 1200
1440 x 1050
1280 x 960
1024 x 768
800 x 600
640 x 480
What should I do ?
I have also installed Windows XP and Windows 7 guests. I do have the 1440x900 under these OS.
Thanks a lot

Re: Screen Resolution with Debian Squeeze
Use the hot key toggle (Host+F) to go in & out of full screen mode. If you want to use the guests settings you would need to add the resolution to that, but it will be slightly off due to the title bar and status bar. Only full screen uses the same resolution.
Re: Screen Resolution with Debian Squeeze
Hello Perryg
Thanks for your reply.
Unfortunately, I am already using full screen mode
(sorry for not precising it from the very beginning)
I don't know why only 4:3 resolution are available and if there is a way to "force".
I have tried : but failed with segmentation fault error.
but still uses 1024x768 resolution
Thanks for your reply.

Code: Select all
VBoxManage controlvm MyVM setvideomodehint 1440 900 32Code: Select all
VBoxManage setextradata MyVM CustomVideoMode1 "1440x900x32"-

Re: Screen Resolution with Debian Squeeze
You have the Guest Additions virtual CD mounted in the VM, but you have not actually installed the Guest Additions. Please see the user manual for installation instructions.
When you select "Install Guest Additions" from the menu, all that happens is that a virtual CD is mounted in the virtual drive. If your chosen guest OS has autoplay then the installer will begin automatically. If you don't have autoplay (or it's disabled) then you must run the installer manually. But read the user manual to find out what the prerequisites are.

Re: Screen Resolution with Debian Squeeze
I did installed the Guest Additions, as I was able to get resolution higher than 800x600 (without the guests additions, i only had 640x480 and 800x600).
But to tell me this, you must have seen something wrong in my log file.
So I decided to re-install.
1) Uninstalling by :
--> reboot
2) Re-installing using this howto : viewtopic.php?t=15679
and
And now, it's OK
Thank you very much !
