Windows 8 and VirtualBox - I do not see the 64-bit systems

Hello to all,
I installed the latest version of VirtualBox in Windows 8.
I realized early on that while the wizard to create a new virtual machine, you do not see the option to select a 64-bit operating systems.

I am 100% sure that the same PC, which was previously installed Windows 7 in VirtualBox you could see (and you could install / use), even the 64-bit systems!

I checked the BIOS and virtualization is active, so I tried to turn it off and on again, but it does not work.
I also updated the BIOS, but to no avail ....

At this point I doubt / hope that there is some check to be activated in Windows 8.

Can you help?

Thanks in advance.

Does your Windows 8 have Hyper-v?

Yes, I have already installed Hyper-V on Windows 8.
But I prefer to use VirtualBox ;-)

Why have you made this question?

Because Hyper-v is another virtualizer and you can't run two at the same time (for 64-bit guests). Now here's the rub, Microsoft decided to have it loaded at boot. Since only one application can use hardware virtualization at a time you need to disable that or remove it if you want to use VirtualBox and 64-bit guests.

They didn't really have any other option. The host runs as a vm under the hypervisor, so the hypervisor has to load before the host OS.

Perfect! Thank you!
I knew they were incompatible but I thought it was enough, do not run Hyper-V in order to avoid problems.
Now I have permanently removed Hyper-V and VirtualBox is working properly.

PS. I know that there is a portable version of VirtualBox unofficial, it is very very convenient, but that is not official worries me a little ...
According to you, sooner or later will be made an official version of VirtualBox Portable?

Do your CPU and motherboard support hardware virtualization? Is it enabled in the BIOS?
