My guest OS is Windows XP. I have installed the latest guest drivers (4.26 I believe). I have also enabled clipboard and drag'n'drop bidirectionality on "Devices" as I understand these come disable by default now. My host runs Mac OS is 10.8.2.

The XP guest is unable to read or write to the host and viceversa. I tried transferring information through a pendrive but the guest won't recognise it either. It is entirely isolated. I installed Windows XP today and it is fully updated.

Could anyone help me figure out what's going on here? It seems like everything is in order but things just won't work as they should.

This is the second attempt at this by the way. The problem presented itself and I was completely baffled, so I uninstalled Windows XP and started afresh, but the problem is quite persistent.

Clipboard is text only, and drag'n'drop works only from Linux host to guest (at this point)

Oh I see. Is there any reason why they removed Drag'n'Drop? It used to work with Mac hosts.

Also, what about the fact that the guest OS doesn't recognise the USB drive? Has that been disabled as well?

VirtualBox Drag'n'drop was only added since version 4.2.0 http://www.virtualbox.org/manual/ch15.html#idp13875696
If the guest is Linux then make sure that you have set the D'n'D to host to guest. Bidirectional will not work.
USB is another thing. It is available to Mac users but rather difficult. Seems one must disconnect/release it from the Host before you can allow the guest to use it.

Yes indeed! That worked perfectly.

Oh and by the way, Drag'n'Drop™®© may have been added as a feature in 4.2.0 but I was able to drag and drop from my Mac host to any guest OS in older versions of Virtualbox. It's a shame that this useful feature has been disabled in recent versions.

You did not do that with VirtualBox.

I use the shared folders to transfer files from host to guest. It would be faster with drag n' drop but...
