Capturing and releasing keyboard and mouse

Post by William9455 »

I have VM for win 7 Pro. When it was fist booted up and installed I had the butons on te bottom right, they are gone now. I cannot add my printer and external HD though USB. I used to be able to just click on te USB buton and it would show me a list of USB devies to enable n Virtual box. On this VM I cannot. I installed another VM for Win 7 and the buttons came back. But when I copy of the snapshot of th broken VM it replicates on the new VM. So I am thinking there is a setting I just do not know about for som reason I changed but I cannot find again.

I am running on the following:
ubuntu 12.10
10TB HD
Icore 5 3600 CPU @ 3.7GHZ X8
32GIG of Ram
64 Bit system
Virtual BOX 4.2.6R82870 build
WIN 7 Pro 64 bit
500 GIG HD
8GIG of Ram
USB is enabled in setup

I have uploaded a screen shot of the lack of buttons on system,
Any help would be appreacated, sort of new to Linux.

Thanks

William

Did you install the extension pack for v4.2.6? USB 2.0 will not work without that.

The best way to access a USB printer is via a network share, not using virtual USB. The latter will cause the printer to be disconnected from the host, which is probably not desirable.

ON another fact, If i create a New machine WIN7 or Any Linux system in the Virtual Box, I do not lose those buttons, Its only in my orginal win 7 vm box.

I have gone though all the setting to make sure nothing is changed, matched up, but when I export the snapshot, or clone same result no USB, HDD or any buttons on lower right.

Was doing this in 4.2.4 then updated to 4.2.6 and all extension packs installd to to match version.

I have no idea which "buttons" you are referring to. On my PC the USB device is selected via the GUI settings or via the Devices menu in the running VM window.

Perhaps you should post pictures of working and not-working VMs, i.e. showing buttons present and not present.

Also, zip up the VM log file and the .vbox file and post them here as an attachment.

Try hitting HOST+C (i.e. right ctrl+C) to take your VM out of scale mode, as that hides the menu and status bar which probably have those buttons you're missing

Actually you didn't.
