Hi there,
I tried to convert a VMWare Open Suse 32-bit guest to VBox using vboxmanage clonehd (Host is Windows XP 32-bit).
Starting the converted VBox vm I get the error

This kernel requires an x86-64 CPU, but only detected an i686 CPU. Unable to boot ...

I tried both os versions in VBox: Open Suse and Open Suse 64-bit, but same problem.
In VMWare the guest was set to Suse Linux (without the 64-bit).
Can anyone help pls?

If that error message is coming from the guest then AFAIK that pretty definitively identifies it as a 64bit guest, not 32bit. It's possible you could install a 32bit kernel, I don't know, I'm not an expert in Linux, so someone else would have to help you with that.

If you want to run a 64bit guest in VirtualBox then you must have a 64bit CPU (since VBox is a hypervisor, not a CPU simulator), plus you must enable VT-x in the VM settings. Of course for that to work your CPU must support VT-x (or AMD-v), and virtualization support must be enabled in the host BIOS, and no other software can be using it at the same time.

Post a log file for the VM (as a compressed attachment) of you want to discuss this further.

Now I installed Open SuSe fresh from CD into VBox so it's no more necessary to convert it from VMWare!
