VBox Windows 7/8 on MB Retina

Post by bafonso »

Hi,

I've been experiencing extremely slow graphics when using win7 on a mbp retina. I'd like to know if this is common and what your settings are. Alternatively, is win8 a better option regarding virtual OS performance in VBox.

I've tried both with 3D support and without and it is always so sluggish. I'm trying to use some CAD software and currently it seems impossible. I was running a much smoother win7 on a mbp 2010, which seems pretty ridiculous :)

Hello,
thanks for the Post. I'm experiencing the same Problems.
Using MacBook Pro Retina with VirtualBox Version 4.2.6. running Windows7.
When starting InternetExplorer or Firefox the grafic gets really slow. You cannot work with the mouse because of long response time/delay.
Any solution?

btw: When will retina resolution be supported by VB

Christian

One additional comment:
Win7 work much faster in virtualbox on my macbook pro retina under mac os x 10.7 (lion). The delayed and slow mouse pointer came with mac os x 10.8 (mountain lion).

I found it out myself!
You have to install the guest additions...
You will find it after starting the virtual machine under "devices" the last point.
After installing, you will get high resolution and fast(er) graphics.

I am having the same problems.

Have tried installed Guest Additions to resolve the problem, but it hasn't.

Re-built the Mac again from scratch and still have the same issue.

Anyone have any other ideas besides installing guest additions?

I have tried the latest 4.2.10, and installed the guest addition. Not help at all. The windows moving is very slow on the windows 7. Virtual box 4.1.23 is the only version that works fines for me now.
Anyone can have any solution?

Did not try the guest option, but added an external display - works perfectly on the external display. Sure has something to to with the retina display.
