Hi!
Somehow I encountered a weird problem. I´m running latest version of virtualbox on Host Windows 7 (Server Mainboard Intel S1200BTL, Xeon E3) with 2 Guest Systems (Windows 2008 R2 and the latest Ubuntu Server 12.10 with Samba) - both 3GB of RAM, Network is bridged in both systems with a fixed IP.
VB: 4.2.4 r81684
Windows 7 x64 (host), 8GB RAM (all updates)
Ubuntu Server 12.10 (x64 - guest), 3GB RAM + Guest Additions (all updates)
Windows Server 2008 R2 (x64 guest), 3GB RAM + Guest Additions (all updates)
Installation etc. went fine, no problems at all, I can access the data on the Ubuntu Server and I can login to the Windows 2008 Server from the network. What happens is, that after about 1-2 hours not using the host system I can´t access the Server and the data (I/O errors in both guest systems), the connection gets really slow or fails completely. It seems like the virtual or the actual harddrive doesn´t wake from some sort of Powersaving Mode. But when I move the mouse in the Windows 7 Host, everything works again. I turned off every Powersaving Setting I could find (Networkadapter, Windows 7, bios seems fine), still no luck. I turned the firewall off, applied recommended network tweaks in Windows 7 - no change. What seems to have worked is turning off acpi in ubuntu - at least until right now (a few hours now). But the problem still occurs in Windows 2008.
If you need more information about settings etc. please let me know. I couldn´t find a solution in two days... so thanks in advance for your help!
Cheers,
Andreas

Re: I/O Errors in Guest Systems
You may have other problems too, but this is cutting it too close IMHO. I would reduce the guest RAM to 2GB each, and in fact I would not run 3 resource hungry OS's at the same time on this host - at all.VBox.log wrote: 00:00:00.807414 Host RAM: 7914MB total, 3715MB available
00:00:01.253777 RamSize <integer> = 0x00000000c0000000 (3 221 225 472, 3 GB)
ps. Why is there a "MACOSX" metadata branch in the zip file you provided? What tool created this zip?

Re: I/O Errors in Guest Systems
Thanks for the info! I had the RAM at 2GB each, I changed it to 3GB just to check if it has any effect at my problem. I´m going to change it back for now and I´ll get some additional RAM next week.
I know, it´s not the perfect setting, unfortunately it has to stay like this...
Cheers
