6 of 19 Guests are 'randomly' aborting
Posted: 19. Dec 2012, 22:50
First, I am new to Linux and VirtualBox, and I apologize for any poor nomenclature or unclear phrasing. As I'm unsure what information will be needed to get to the bottom of this issue, I will post what I think are the important details.
6 of my 19 guests fail, all (aparently) at the same time, and all for no reason I have been able to determine.
Apart from the fact that they all run on the same host, I cannot find 1 (meaningful) thing they all have in common.
Host:
2 x 8 core Xeon procs totalling 32 cores presented to the OS.
64 GB RAM.
~50% free disk space ( 2 x 1.2 TB volumes )
Ubuntu Desktop 10.04 64-bit
VirtualBox 4.1.20
Guests:
19 running vm's total
They are a mix of 10.04 server and desktop, all 64-bit
Total resources allocated for all 19 vm's - 55 of 64 GB RAM, 19 of 32 cores
execution cap set to 100% for all 19 vm's
all 19 vm's are stored on one of the two 1.2TB volumes
6 of the vm's are aborting. I have been discovering this when I try to ssh into a machine and it fails. Looking at the VB gui on the host, I will see that the same 6 machines are all aborted . . . They were not cloned from a single vm. 2 of the 6 should be under little to no load whatsoever. Of those 2, 1 is Ubuntu 10.04 Desktop, the other is Ubuntu 10.04 Server. 1 of the remaining 4 is Ubuntu 10.04 Desktop and runs an Oracle xe instance that get's hit pretty hard. The other 3 are Ubuntu 10.04 server, making a small Hadoop cluster. I'm not sure how much load the Hadoop cluster is under.
