I'm sure this has been covered before but...
Almost every time I do a Linux 12.04 update it breaks VB regardless of the version. I've installed the latest verson to fix it. I use the command line '/etc/init.d/vboxdrv setup' and sometimes it works. However, more recently I've had to reinstall VB. I get a permissions error as of late. It's a PITA and it there is any insight as to why this happens I'd surely appreciate it.

Re: VB breaks
Well this is covered in the users manual but let me help. I suspect you did not install dkms on the host and every time the kernel is updated this will happen if you don't.
Re: VB breaks
Thanks Perry for your wise response. I'm still learning Linux and am not sure how to install dkms on my system. If you can help I'd appreciate it and if not I'll Google it.

Re: VB breaks
If by Linux 12.04 you mean Ubuntu 12.04 just do the following from a terminal.
Code: Select all
sudo apt-get install dkms-

Re: VB breaks
This is the specific section in the manual.
If you are struggling with your GNU/Linux (to the point of confusing Ubuntu with the Linux kernel) it might be wise to join your local LUG (Linux Users Group) for help and advice.

Thanks Perry and Twisted. I shall try the suggestion. I've looked for and found only one group that meets at the university. Checked their website but wasn't too impressed. Anyway I'll keep plugging away.
Thanks so much for your help.
