Kubuntu doesn't load after increasing virtual hard disk size

Hello.
I would be grateful if you can help me.
I have VirtualBox 4.1.18 , and Kubuntu 12.04 installed and running via Virtual Box.
After running CloneDVI and increasing size of virtual hard disk where root is located, I can't login to Kubuntu.
I removed the smaller sized v. hard disk and added a new one in virtual machine settings (storage section)
The login window is showing, I enter username and password, click enter, and the login window is shown again.
However, when I do console login, I succeed to login, and view files on the virtual machine.
How can I login to Kubuntu as usual, so that my desktop will be shown.
Thank you in advance.

CloneVDI, unlike VBoxManage, does not alter your original file on a resize - it should always be possible to go backwards. I suggest you do so, verify that all is well, then do the resize again, this time with the "Keep UUID" option set.

The cause of your problem, I believe, is that your grub boot script is selecting the boot disk using its UUID, but the UUID changes during cloning unless you have "Keep UUID" set. Another solution is to modify the grub script to refer to the boot disk by device name instead, e.g. "/dev/sda".

Thanks for your response.
The problem is that when I set the Virtual box settings to refer to the old virtual hard disk (the one whose size I wanted to increase) , and try to login - the same problem happens.
Or, maybe I haven't understood what you mean by going backwards.

Yes, that's exactly what I mean by "go backwards".

If you are saying that returning to the original disk - that CloneVDI never touched - doesn't fix the problem then it obviously has nothing to do with CloneVDI.

Does this VM use snapshots, or anything of that kind? If yes then it was a mistake was to mount the clone in the original VM (the CloneVDI release notes discuss this). Likewise it's a mistake to mount the base VDI in that VM, because it's the current snapshot that should have been mounted. I'll wait for you to confirm this scenario before I discuss what to do about it.

I haven't used snapshots in this VM. I succeed to boot with LIVE CD and can edit the grub script, however, I don't know how.
When I try to login, a black screen with commands appear for a fraction of second and the thing I see is : "Saned disabled; edit /etc/default/saned"
Then the login screen appears again.

Sorry, I'm not a Linux user - or a grub expert for that matter. Someone else will have to advise you on that.
