Hello,
I installed VirtualBox v. 4.2.4 r81684 on a Windows 2008 R2 standard server.
I put a supplementary network board (3Com 3C2000-T) dedicated to VirtualBox guests, assign a static IP and disable IPV6 and NetBios for this net board.
After that, I created a new virtual machine for Debian 64 guests, the network is configured in bridge mode. I installed Linux Debian Squeeze 6.0.6 with kernel 2.6.32-5-amd64 with one network interface, the IP address is static.
The Linux VM works normally, but, after being unused for some minute, the Linux system stops answer to requests from other computers, except from the Windows server host.
If I login to the VM console and start some program that work with network (e.g. a ping to some computer, or nslookup), the system starts immediately to answer to requests from other computers.
I disabled all power saving options on server physical network boards, but without success.
Have some of you incurred in this kind of problem with Virtualbox?
Kind regards.
Paolo

Re: Linux guest stop responding to network requests
Same problem and configuration: host windows, debian guest with bridged network and static ip.
Virtualbox installed on windows server 2003 host and debian squeeze as a guest.
The guest system hosts a website that after a while stops responding from the outside. Just carry out any operation which requires the use of the network by the guest OS and the site returns visible from the outside.
Any help will be appreciated.

Re: Linux guest stop responding to network requests
Changing the type of network card in virtualbox settings from Intel PRO/1000 desktop in Intel PRO/1000 T Server, seems to work fine.
The guest is worked all night without losing connections.

Re: Linux guest stop responding to network requests
Must have been a powersaving setting somewhere then, which is disabled by default on the server version of the network card.
