I was just curious about this. I run Avast antivirus on my Mac host and all my VB guests use bridged networks. Avast has a web shield so I was wondering if all my guests would be protected by the host antivirus.

I rather doubt it. The guest's web accesses are not being filtered by the host unless you happen to have implemented a proxy webserver there.
