Hi, I am trying to tether within WinXP guest. As soon as I turned on USB techering on my phone, the Host took over. Does anyone here know how to accomplish this? Please give me some instructions. Many thanks.
My Setup:
Samsung Galaxy S2
Win7 Host
WinXP Guest.
Additonal Info: I only want to tether from guest, not the host. Because I have no admin access to the Host.
How to Tether within WinXP guest only???

Plug your phone, activate tethering, your host will take over, no problem.
On the VM window, right click on the USB signal, and select your thetered phone, this should setup a filter. At this point, it might looks like the device is "broken" on your host, that's fine, no problem.
Unplug your phone, replug your phone. This should bring up the install of the VM usb drivers, that will allow you to take over from the guest.
At this point, if the thetering still doesn't show in your guest, simply unplug & replug again.
You should now see thetering in your guest.

I tried it a few times. No, this does not work. As soon as I turned on USB Tether on the phone, the HOST took over. Any other ideas?noteirak wrote:Unplug your phone, replug your phone.

I finally ended up using PdaNet. VirtualBOX does NOT work with the USB Tether option comes on phone. Please fix it.

Did you set the USB filter manually, or did you use the USB icon at the bottom right of the VM window, or did you use the Add filter using the USB with the green round in the USB VM settings?LemonTree wrote:As soon as I turned on USB Tether on the phone, the HOST took over. Any other ideas?
Do you have the correct driver installed in XP? I doubt that by default they are installed. You should check in the Device Manager
I just tried with my android phone on a windows 7 guest, it works fine, I can use my 3G connection in the guest. I'll try in XP as soon as I installed a box with it.
Can you attached as a zip your vbox.log file after you've tried to put the tether in the VM, and then shut it down.

It works fine in XP too, you do need drivers tho.
Incidently, I've noticed that it will work better if you first plug your phone without thetering enabled, let the guest grab it, and then turn on tethering.
Could you give it a try?
