Lubuntu 12.10 no webcam video logitech c510

Post by Lubuntu12.10.Vbox »

Hi,

No video from logitech c510 webcam, also getting mic to work was a bit of a nightmare.

Have installed latest extensions pack, and guest additions, and activated the guest additions driver. rebooted still not able to get video from webcam. Tested using Skype for linux 4.1 and other cam software. Simple does not detect hardware.

Lubuntu 12.10 guest, on windows 7 host, with Virtualbox 4.2.4
Using latest logitech driver and software on host (2.51)

this problem was also on lubuntu 12.04

I hope this can be solved soon. Thanks :)

Ouch. Try attaching the logs as a .zip

Hosing us with text - split over multiple messages too! - is not usually the best way to encourage a helpful response. Post log files as compressed attachments - I have fixed your message this time.

The irony is that the log is useless anyway. The important facts about USB devices like this are, did you create a filter in the VM settings, and do you have guest drivers for this device - and was the host already using this device (i.e. did you wait until the VM was running before plugging the device in).

For general help on USB, using Google (not internal search) to search for "USB site:forums.virtualbox.org".

Of course this is all assuming that it is indeed a USB webcam - because simulated machines are not in general intended to "detect host hardware".
