Error VERR_LDR_MISMATCH_NATIVE after upgrade to 4.2.4 SOLVED
Posted: 5. Dec 2012, 20:27
My host is Windows 7 32-bit. I was running version 4.2.0 without issue (with various guests). Today I upgraded to 4.2.4. After the upgrade, all my existing VMs fail with this error:
Failed to open a session for the virtual machine junk3.
Failed to load VMMR0.r0 (VERR_LDR_MISMATCH_NATIVE).
Result Code: E_FAIL (0x80004005)
Component: Console
Interface: IConsole {db7ab4ca-2a3f-4183-9243-c1208da92392}
I have tried creating a new fresh VM (Windows XP guest), it also fails with the same error.
I Googled this error message but did not find much on it. One article suggested reinstalling. So I uninstalled VB 4.2.4, removed the remnants of the C:\Program Files\Oracle directory, removed my .VirtualBox folder, rebooted, reinstalled VBox, reinstall the extension pack, rebooted again. Still same error.
If I launch "Oracle VM Virtualbox" from the Start Menu, right click and choose "Run as Administrator" then it works ok. I did not have to use "Run as Administrator" in 4.2.0. Attached is the log file of a failing VM, as well as the output of various vboxmanage command.
If anyone has advice on how to fix this, please let me know.
I installed Vbox 4.2.4 on my coworkers laptop (same model as mine: Dell E6420), it works fine for him , he did not have any version of VBox previously installed. So it seems the problem was caused by the upgrade from 4.2.0 to 4.2.4
On my laptop, I have tried uninstalling 4.2.4, and cleaning the registry by hand (all Vbox-related keys that I could find), and reinstalling, that also did not help.
Regards,
Jeff
