Hi,
I'm trying to install mac OS 10.6.8 as guest on VB 4.1.23 with mac OS 10.8.2 as host.
and I get the following error:
"panic(cpu 0 caller 0x2e8ff259): "Unsupported cpu: family = 0x6, model = 0x3a, stepping = 0x9"@/SourceCache/AppleIntelCPUPowerManagement/AppleIntelCPUPOwerManagement-90/ pmProcessor.c:210"
Any suggestions on how to fix this?

Re: Panic: Unsupported CPU when trying to install mac os on
It might be simpler to diagnose this if you provided us with the Mac model that you are running. Usually this message comes up if you try to create a Mac OS X guest of a version of Mac OS X that is earlier than the version that came with the Mac. For instance, if you tried to create a guest of Snow Leopard on a 2012 Mac that came with Mountain Lion installed as the original OS. When booting, Mac OS X checks against a list of CPUs that were supported when that particular OS was created (Snow Leopard) and if you have a newer CPU (a newer Mac) then it's a no-go.

Re: Panic: Unsupported CPU when trying to install mac os on
Hi and thanks for this information.
What you say make seance since i'm trying to install the Snow leopard from a few years ego on a brand new (mid 2012)mac book pro.
If this is true, then on my new mac VB I can only install mountain lion OS as a guest?
Is there a way of installing an older OS as guest on a new mac in VB?

Yes, there are ways to do this, but it can't be discussed on these forums without inviting the wrath of the moderators. There are quite a few websites and blogs that discuss the issues and workarounds, so if your Google-fu skills are up to the task you can search the web for instructions.Billy Milligan wrote:Is there a way of installing an older OS as guest on a new mac in VB?

Thanks
I got so many explanations to my problem on mac forums that I want to be sure before I try any complicated workaround

Re: Panic: Unsupported CPU when trying to install mac os on
My iMac came with Leopard. I purchased Snow Leopard, Lion, etc.
When I try to install Snow Leopard under VBox, I get the same panic. Most workarounds that I found are for VB 3.x.x and I get the same panic
