VirtualBox 4.2.4 and pfSense 2.0.1

Post by Derwood »

Hope someone can answer this for me.
I've got a system running CentOS 6.3. The physical system has 2 NICs. One is assigned to VirtualBox for the virtuals that are running there and it all seems to be working fine.
I have 3 virtuals running on the system.
I also have another physical system that is my firewall system and it runs pfSense 2.0.1. I'd like to virtualize the firewall system. My network setup is pretty basic. I have a single static IP from Time Warner. I know that I'll have to switch the cable that goes from the modem to the firewall box and connect it to the unused NIC on the VirtualBox system. The unused NIC which will be eth1 will become the WAN port.
The big question I have is twofold. First, what IP should I assign to the physical NIC (eth1)? Should it even have an IP address?
Second, how should I set the virtual WAN NIC on pfsense when I set it up in VirtualBox? Should it be bridged? NAT? host-only?

Any pointers would be appreciated.
