broken keyboard input

Hi,

I have a really strange issue. Hopefully somebody can give me any pointers...

In my environment I have to run VirtualMachine UI using X11 session on MacOS host from a linux server. In other words, I do "ssh -X user@linuxhost" and run the UI.
Everything works OK except when it comes to loging in into Linux guest through the console screen. On that screen arrows and Enter key work but no other keys appear to function. I cannot type any user/password to login from the console.

If I do a VNC session to the Linux host itself and run VBox that way everything works OK. The issue appears to be a cross between MacOS, X11 client and VBox.

I am on macOS 10.8 with VBox 4.1.22.
