WinXP can't detect video card on my mac mini...

Post by nycionx »

Hey there! Here is my situation:

I have a Mac Mini Server with NVIDIA GeForce 9400 (full details below)
I installed the latest VirtualBox for Mac and installed Windows XP. It runs successfully but the problem is with the video drivers... it couldn't recognize the geforce 9400 card that's in the mac mini. I tried installing the latest nvidia drivers (306.81-desktop-winxp-32bit-english-whql.exe) but it wouldn't proceed claiming no nvidia cards were detected. It also detects "Base System Device" as an issue (missing drivers) in the Device Manager of WinXP.
Anyone know how to solve this problem? Much obliged. :)

The VM does not have a geforce graphics card, which could perhaps explain why the driver doesn't detect one. The graphics card present in another PC (i.e. your host) is not relevant.

Just install the Guest Additions (see Device menu).

Ok thanks I tried that and the device manager has no more driver problems but I still have a problem launching Warcraft 3. :)

I get this message launching just the world editor.exe (see attached picture). the frozen throne.exe just shows the splash screen and nothing happens. killed it later in process explorer.

btw, regarding the message in the screenshot, directx 9.0c is already installed (came with installing winxp) i guess i can install it again but i dont think that would solve the problem...

In that case enable 3D accleration in the VM settings, uninstall the GAs, then reinstall after booting in safe mode. See the user manual for details.
