Settings for GPM

Post by Someone4746 »

Hi,

I'm trying to setup GPM for my linux console with the absolute pointing device that virtualbox provides (I don't think the guest additions one is usable in console mode I think it's for Xorg only, but I'm not sure)
I need to select what device node to use under /dev and what protocol to set

trying /dev/input/mice and imps2 seems to have the integration semi-working the mouse can leave the virtualbox guest window but it loses sync very quickly with the position of the mouse in the host.

Can anyone help me with this, setting up gpm to work with comeplete integration would be really helpful for me.

It's supposed to be possible with version 3.2 and later with a small XML config file tweak (see ticket #6642, comment 6), which seems to correspond to the GUI option under System --> Extended Features --> Enable absolute pointing device on the 4.x version of VirtualBox that I have open.

It's squirrelly, and I'm still able to cause the gpm pointer to lose sync with the host's mouse cursor pretty quicky, by wheeling the mouse around really fast and moving it in and out of the VirtualBox window--at least on a Linux host. It might be worth reopening the existing ticket.

For the time being, it seems disabling the host mouse integration (Host key + I) is probably the only way you're going to be able to both 1) use gpm within your VM's console and 2) not end up having the gpm mouse pointer so out of sync as to be unusable.
