Hi,

I'm running VirtualBox 4.2.4 on OSX 10.6.8 with Windows Vista.

I'm trying to install Guest Additions, but whenever I select it I get a spinning beach ball and have to force quit.

Has anone else had this problem and if so did they sort it.

Any help would be hugely grateful

Regards
T

Hi,

I have solved my own problem for anyone that is interested.

I downloaded the guest addition iso from the VirtualBox 4.2.4 downloads area.

I then downloaded software to mount the iso called Magic Disc.

I was able to mount the iso in Vista and install the Guest additions.

Shared folders are working now.

Downloading the GAs ISO should not have been necessary - the same file is bundled with VirtualBox.

Also, Windows uses an hourglass to indicate "busy", a beachball would ISTM indicate that your problem was on the host.

If I was you I would run a diskcheck on the host, since it's possible your bundled copy of the ISO may have been hosed. A permissions problem in the install folder is also possible. Likewise having the ISO mounted in a CD simulator (thereby denying exclusive access) could do it as well I suppose.

You also didn't say how you were attempting to install the GAs. The correct way is to select "Install Guest Additions..." from the "Devices" menu of the VM window.
