cannot install 64 bits linux on 64 bits windows

Post by yohann »

hello,

here is my host os: windows 7 64-bits. Virtualbox version is 4.2.4 r81684. My processor is: Pentium Dual Core T4400 2.2GHz, 4GB RAM. This is an ASUS K70ID Series notebook.

I tried to install a debian 64 bits guest (using amd64-netinst) and it failed early. Freezed on installer first screen.
This VM has "Enable IO APIC", "Enable PAE/NX" options turned on. I rebooted my laptop and entered bios but found no enable virtualization, IOV or anthing like that (this is an intel proc). This BIOS is a legacy AMI BIOS. Is there something more I should do to enable 64-64 virtualization?

I tried with a fedora 64 bits guest (netinst) and it also failed. I tried with fedora i386 netinst version and it worked.

Am I on one of those rare platforms where 64-64 virtualization is not available or is it a restriction in my bios/firmware?

Many thanks,

yohann

attached: VBox.log, VBox.log.1, VBox.log.2 and VBox.log.3 after debian install failure and vm powered off.

The T4400 cpu does not support hardware virtualization. You will only be able to use 32-bit guests
