Erratic mouse behavior, samba and other

Hello!

I've been trying to get help about this on the suse forums, but sadly no one knew what the problem is.

I'm using openSUSE 12.2 64-bit guest in Windows 7 64-bit host.

Now, this never happened before, but now, mouse seems to jump around the screen (not visualy). Everything is normal, but when i drag windows, they jump all over the screen.
The same happens when i click on something. Ususaly the mouse registers that i clicked the upper left side of the screen and this usually leads to opening the active window menu (minimize, maximize, restore etc.).
When dragging windows, the dragged window also jumps to the upper left part of the screen.

This leads to a lot of frustrations and ultimately, the inability to use the system properly.

Now, samba. I've set it up to work with Windows 7 shared folders (workgroup), and it did work once.
After reboot, it's giving me the timeout error and i can't access (but i can see) shared folders on windows.
I can't figure it out...

The attached file is a screenshot of VirtualBox openSUSE machine settings.

Lastly, the whole system is sluggish a bit, i don't know if it's because if suse or something i missed in VBox, it's not really a problem, but since i gave it 4 GB RAM and 256 MB VRAM, it should work fine.

My computer specs are:

AMD Phenom II 1090t 3.2 GHz (virtualisation enabled in bios)
8 GB ram
Geforce 9600 GT 512 MB RAM
1 TB WD caviar black disk
Desktop resolution 1920x1080

Please help me if you have any idea what the problem might me because i don't. :(

Post the guests log file (as an attachment)
See Online Users Manual for the location of the file.

The mouse issue about the random click is an xorg/freedesktop.org issue and is present on metal, but really bad on Virtual. What version of xorg is installed?

Edit: I know that the hot corner seems to be the issue. Fedora has fixed this by disabling the hot corner and Ubuntu has a work-a-round by changing the mouse coordinates. Gnome3 has an extension that disables the hot corner as well. Sorry to say I don't have the exact work-a-round for openSUSE yet but might by the end of the day.

Hello thank you for your reply!

So the mouse issue isn't VBox's fault. Good to know. One step closer to fixing it. :D

The log file is in the attachments, it won't let me post it in code since it's too long.

And i don't really know how to check xorg version, but after searching google, i found the "env" command. I'm guessing that' it and it's in the attachment too.
If not, please tell me what command to use in terminal to get the output you need. I not exactly new in linux, but i'm not that versed in most terminal commands. :) I mostly didn't need them.

Just run the following in a terminal

Code: Select all

Xorg -version
I just got 12.2 installed and will see what can be done until the upstream maintainers get this all sorted out. As usual any thing dealing with maintainers could take a while.

Just searched google and found that command. Sorry. :)

The forum won't let me add the file or post the text here...

The extension is not allowed.
You must be a member for 1 days and have 1 posts before you can post urls.

Anyway, it says:

Xorg server: 1.12.3
Release date: 2012-7-9
X protocol version 11, Revision 0

I'll post the full one i guess tomorrow but from what i can tell it's not needed, just says kernel version and some other parameters...

https://extensions.gnome.org/extension/ ... ot-corner/
Seems to take care of the issue for me in openSUSE-12.2 as well.

Damn, i forgot to mention, i'm running KDE...
It won't work with KDE.

I might swith to gnome for a while though untill this bug gets resolved permanently.

Thank you. :)

Do you have any idea what's wrong with samba network?

Sorry I don't use KDE, but I would think there should be someone that does that has had this issue. I do know that when I test KDE on desktops in a Virtual Machine it seems sluggish to me.

Samba, well no I don't. I know it can be super easy or really hard to get to work. Seems there is nothing in the middle. The biggest thing that I can say is the config is where all issues are (or at least they have been for me). It takes tweaking and AFAIK VirtualBox really has nothing to do with it.

Ok, thank you!

I tried to use that extension on gnome and it does indeed fix the issue.
I don't really like the new gnome desktop, but i'm allways for trying something new. :P
Not that i have a choice now. KDE is indeed sluggish on virtual machines and that bug is horrible to work with.

Gnome is more responsive, faster and i'm sure, when i configure it properly, figure out what's where, how to put icons on desktop (lol), and other stuff that i'll get used to it.

I'll try to search the web and forums again for samba related issue. I know it's not VBox' fault since it worked perfectly the first time i configured it.

Thank you for your help! I won't use KDE i guess for now, but now at least i have an option (Gnome had issues too before i installed the extension you recommended).
