How to get my VM to use my cd/dvd player/burner

Running Virtualbox 4.24 r81684 on Win 7 X64 Core I-7 3rd gen. cpu machine. I am new to this, but had no problem installing Virtual box and a VM running XP SP-3 with 512 MB of ram assigned.
My main reason for installing virtual box was so I can run an older Version of Roxio Easy Creator 9 on my new Windows 7 machine. It won't run directly on Windows 7.
The VM accesses my cd/dvd drive, on the VM "IDE Secondary Master: Host Drive "f:" I was able to run my Roxio install cd's ok to install the software. But the VM cd/dvd player will not play a standard DVD, I get the message "Insufficient video resources" even though I have set video memory to 128 MB. It also does not play standard audio cd's using windows media player. Roxio Easy Media Creator 9 suite runs fine, but does not recognize the drive. This same drive plays and burns cds and DVDs fine from the host. [Not with the roxio software which is not installed on the host.]
Is there a way to get some sort of playback and burning on this drive in the VM?
Thanks for any replies.
